“I have been proud to serve on this important Board and look forward to continuing my support of our industry and the State,” said Hayes. “As the owner of a debt collection agency myself, I take my role on the Board very seriously. We have a responsibility to treat consumers with utmost respect while collecting overdue receivables on behalf of client companies.”

The Maryland Collection Agency Licensing Board is a four-member, non-partisan group of business and consumer representatives nominated by the Governor. It exists to protect Maryland citizens from abusive debt collection practices. The board has the power to both grant and revoke collection agencies’ licenses, addresses written complaints, conducts hearings on alleged violations, mediates disputes, and issues orders requiring licensees to correct violations. The board also informs both licensees and the public about abusive debt collection practices.

Hayes was officially sworn in on July 12th by Robert P. Duckworth, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County.
