CBE Companies announced today that Michael L. Frost, CBE Companies Chief Compliance, Sales Officer and General Counsel, will serve on a panel discussing credit and collection issues.
The event, The Federal Trade Commission’s second of three planned Debt Collection Dialogues, will be held tomorrow in Dallas, Texas, and will include members of the debt collection community in addition to regulators.
The first event took place in June in Buffalo, N.Y., and included only representatives from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the FTC and New York state. At the Dallas dialogue, the FTC invited leaders from the collection industry to serve on panels discussing the current state of regulation issues. Frost will be joined by industry colleagues Patricia Baxter, General Counsel at Recovery Management Systems, and Röbert Foehl, Vice President and General Counsel at ACA International.
Frost has been a leader in the collection industry, frequently delivering presentations on compliance issues at industry events across the nation. In 2011 and 2012, Frost was named among the Top 25 Most Influential Collection Professionals by Collection Advisor. In 2014 he was named to the Who’s Who in Collections by the same magazine. Frost is a member of the ACA International Board of Directors and was awarded the 2014 Members’ Attorney Program designation.
The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. The event was moved to this larger venue after pre-registration quickly filled at a smaller facility. Pre-registration has also closed for the Sept. 29 event, but the FTC plans to admit people on a first-come, first-served basis at the event.
In addition to the industry representatives, government officials on the panels include: Christopher Koegel, Assistant Director of the FTC Division of Financial Practices; Gregory Nodler, Senior Counsel for Enforcement Policy and Strategy at the CFPB; and Kenneth Lennon, Assistant Director of the Community and Consumer Law Division of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency; Jessica Lesser, Managing Attorney, Dallas Regional Office, Consumer Protection Division, Office of the Texas Attorney General; Joann Needleman, senior counsel and practice group leader for Clark Hill, PLC, and president of the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys..
The panelists are expected to discuss enforcement actions, consumer complaints, compliance issues, industry best practices and how regulatory enforcement actions are investigated and pursued.
The final FTC Debt Collection Dialogue will be in Atlanta on Nov. 18.
