The National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA) will be a sponsor for a fourth year of Financial Literacy Day on the Hill which takes place April 26th in Washington, D.C.  The annual event is presented by the Council for Economic Education, Junior Achievement USA and the Jump$tart Coalition. The event’s honorary co-chairs, U.S. Representative Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX) and U.S. Representative Steven Stivers (R-OH), are scheduled to speak, along with other financial literacy dignitaries.

“NARCA is proud to be a sponsor of both the Jump$tart Coalition and Financial Literacy Day on the Hill,” stated NARCA President Louis Freedman.  ”NARCA members take great pride in giving back to their communities, and presenting NARCA’s Avoiding the Debt Trap program to high school and college students has proven to be as fulfilling to our members as it is to the students.  Financial Literacy Day on the Hill event gives NARCA an opportunity to showcase its program and network with other like-minded organizations.”

NARCA’s Avoiding the Debt Trap program is a presentation specifically tailored to the younger audience (ages 17-22) and is designed to teach key concepts in budgeting, credit, math, consumer finance and debt management.

Nick Cheek, Chair of NARCA’s Financial Literacy Committee, explained, “Every day collection attorneys see the financial struggles faced by students and young adults.  This provides unique insight as to how to help them understand consumer credit and debt, how to stay out of financial trouble and what to do if they get behind.  We are constantly seeking new opportunities to present the program and are very interested in partnering with private and governmental entities to provide educational resources to America’s youth.”
